Kamina Artist & Researcher’s Platform (KARP)

The KARP residency program allows artists, researchers, anthropologists, and historians to investigate and create. From 2016 to 2022 was about reflecting on over 100 years of historical facts of Radio Kamina and placing it within the contemporary discourse in helping to shape the content of the future. Currently on site, are the remains and the true significance of historical essence to be communicated to the world. The residency was to preserve the old site and add to it creatively in a manner that will draw all attention to the extent of propelling all manner of people including tourists or international residency participants, to have an experience anytime they visit kamina- Togo. The residency engages all stakeholders which include the government agencies, art and culture ministries, investors, the Chief and elders of Atakpame-Kamina, and the local people to massively welcome the residency organizers’ ideas and help with whatever means possible to make it work for the development of the people and the country.

Artist-in-house Residency

Uncovering the mission and vision that drive our artist-in-residence program and the impact it has fostered since 2016

Missions

To provide a transformative, supportive, and unpressured environment for visual and performance artists, writers, anthropologist, historians and researchers from diverse backgrounds. Karp Residency’s mission is to facilitate focused creative work by removing the distractions of daily life, while fostering meaningful exchange within a small community of peers. It emphasizes process over outcome, allowing residents the time and space to experiment, reflect, and develop their practice within the powerful context of Kmina natural landscape and traditional culture.

Vision

To be a sustainable and evolving sanctuary for artistic and intellectual inquiry, where cross-cultural dialogue and slow creativity are nurtured. KARP residency envisions itself as a living part of the local community of Kamina village, acting as a gentle bridge between the international arts community and the unique heritage of Atakpame District. It aims to build a lasting legacy of shared human experiences and artistic exploration that respects and draws inspiration from its specific location.
